I just finished Seth Godin's latest book, Linchpin. It bridges a broad audience with a very specific message: we are all artists. In his definition, not all artists are painters or writers; rather, lawyers and servers also have the potential to share their art in how they debate or treat a customer.
"Art is unique, new and challenging to the status quo. It's not decoration. It's something that causes change. Art cannot be merely commerce. It must also be a gift."
This book speaks to those who dare to deliver their gifts. He uses colorful examples of people and ideas in his concise writings. There is no business strategy or analytical prose. Instead, Godin connects to his audience through an honest appeal. His sincerity shines through to give each one of us the confidence that we are capable of finding our passion through sharing our gifts of art.
If you've read some of our other blog posts, you know that we are Seth Godin superfans so here's what other people have to say:
"If Seth Godin didn't exist we'd need to invent him-that's how indispensable he is! You hold in your hands a compelling, accessible, and purpose-filled book. Read it, and do yourself a big favor. Your future will thank you!"
-Alan Webber, Founder, Fast Company
"This is what the future of work (and the world) looks like. Actually, it's already happening around you."
-Tony Hsieh, CEO, Zappos.com
"Thousands of authors write business books every year, but only a handful reach star status and the A-list lecture circuit. Fewer still - one, to be exact - can boast his own action figure....Godin delivers his combination of counterintuitive thinking and a great sense of fun."
-BusinessWeek
I would definitely recommend everyone adds this book to your reading list.
