Last week at Design Miami/Basel in Basel, Switzerland, New York-based graphic designer and typographer Stefan Sagmeister presented a chair capable of displaying 200 patterns. His design is called the Darwin chair and is one piece from the Dutch collective Droop.
Sagmeister has applied graphic design concepts to furniture. The top patterned sheets, when worn or when the user is in need of a change can be ripped back, revealing a new pattern. Each pattern abstractly illustrates a stage in the creation of the universe, the beginning of plant, animal and human life, all the way to the digital revolution.

At first I was hesitant to use the Doodle link sent to me last fall, but now I’m pretty much hooked on Doodle. Doodle is a relatively new service that helps coordinate both formal business meetings and casual lunch dates with busy friends. Even more convenient, Doodle is now an iPhone application, so I can track and initiate meeting requests from anywhere.
Doodle allows you to set up a poll, meaning that you indicate available meeting times. Next you can invite participants, by directly inputting their email addresses or sending out the link to whomever you want to participate. Doodle...

With the launch of the first World Cup game today comes the debut of Nike’s eco-friendly and technologically-advanced team jerseys made from recycled plastic. Brasil, the Netherlands, Portugal, the USA, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Serbia and Slovenia will all be wearing Nike’s new team jerseys.
To make the 2010 uniforms, Nike fabric suppliers used discarded plastic bottles from Taiwanese and Japanese landfill sites. The bottles were melted down to produce new yarn that was converted into fabric and used for the jerseys. Compared to using virgin polyester, this process reduced energy consumption by 30% and prevented nearly 13 million...

Forty local and international artists teamed up to paint 50 walls along Market Street between 63rd and 45th streets last August. They created, under the guidance of longtime graffiti artist Stephen Powers, the Love Letters project. The painted walls show a series of witty and sentimental phrases and illustrations that narrate the evolution and power of love.
The project expands beyond painted walls. In addition to two books and a documentary film, the Love Letters project includes a sign school and shop that provides instruction for area youth and free signage for businesses on the Market street...

On Tuesday, June 8 Novella Carpenter – a writer and urban farmer – will speak at the Free Library of Philadelphia about her recently released book, Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer. The book chronicles Carpenter’s experience as she raises vegetables, chickens, rabbits, ducks, goats, turkeys, pigs and bees as a transplant to one of Oakland’s most perilous neighborhoods, nicknamed “GhostTown.”
Carpenter stands her ground as an emerging food writer, recording the rewards of farming in gritty urban America. At the Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, Carpenter studied under writer and food expert Michael Pollan. She continues...
Ever since I was four years old, the majority of my time has been spent on soccer fields. I played soccer in college and still play in a local league in Philly. Anywhere I travel in the world, I always find a game. What fascinates me about the sport is that it transcends all boundaries: gender, race, class, etc. I've learned so many life lessons from soccer about the importance of teamwork, communication and dedication.
If you couldn't tell already; I'm a huge soccer fan and very excited about the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which is only one week...
