The ABC Television Network is the first in the industry to introduce an iPad app that allows users to stream its episodes for free. According to the Wall Street Journal, "It has been downloaded 205,000 times, giving the Walt Disney Co. unit a presence on nearly half the 450,000 devices that Apple says it has sold. Moreover, users have watched at least part of 650,000 television episodes using the app, generating 'several million' ad impressions."
ABC’s iPad advertisers include AT&T, Sears, Lexus and Target. Disney has also reported that the most popular broadcast has been a March 31 episode of "Modern Family," portraying one of its characters wishing for an iPad on his birthday, which conveniently fell on iPad launch day. Disney hopes it can earn additional revenue through 30-second ads and in-video links to buy episodes on iTunes.
There will surely be more and more business opportunities realized on Apple's iPad...stay tuned as we report the most innovative.
